Coach Paul is excited to join AVC during the 2025-26 season coaching the 12 White National team. After 23 years as a public defender, he learned that true growth happens when we invest in the whole person—not just one part of them. That same principle drives how he coaches.

Paul coaches with a goal to cultivate a genuine love for the sport of volleyball through practices that are challenging, fun, and game-based. On the court, we strive to play fearlessly, aggressively, and with joy. Off the court, we develop leaders who carry what they learn here into everything they do—and into their next level of play.  Paul’s personal goal is simple: He never wants to be anyone’s last coach.

Paul use an evidence-based approach to coaching. In this system, athletes identify problems, discover their strengths, and create solutions – he guides the process, but the athletes do the problem-solving. When players learn to think and adapt instead of waiting to be told what to do, they build the foundation for success at the next level. We compete hard and play to win every day, but we stay mindful that real competitive success comes from developing players who can read the game, problem-solve under pressure, and lead.

Coach Paul is certified by USA Volleyball and Gold Medal Squared and has coached 5 seasons in CYO and 3 seasons in recreation volleyball. He started a boys CYO volleyball team in Brecksville, fielding two teams in their inaugural season. Paul was a four-year collegiate swimmer at Baldwin Wallace University and has played indoor and beach volleyball for over 25 years. He plays organized volleyball with his kids, his brother, and his closest friends. When Paul is not coaching, you’ll find him traveling with his wife, Melanie, or on a beach peppering and playing volleyball.
